Support Groups at AFDC ![]() Family Caregiver Support Group* - A support group is an excellent source of information, especially for new caregivers. Members share good times and bad with others going through a similar experience and offer practical solutions to caregiving dilemmas. This group meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Alzheimer's Family Day Center (AFDC). Newcomers are welcome and respite is available free of charge while you attend the meeting. Please call ahead (703) 204-4664 to arrange for respite care. Couples Facing Alzheimer's Social Support Group* - Get out for dinner and gain strength as a couple as you face the journey into Alzheimer's disease, together. Couples in this group learn how to cope with concerns, gain a greater understanding of the disease, and share practical solutions for managing the day-to-day challenges they face. The comfortable social setting provides for relaxed conversation as the couples gain strength and support from each other. This group meets for a potluck dinner regularly at AFDC. Key speakers and open discussions alternate each month. The Potluck dinner is usually held on the last Tuesday of each month.
