Programs
The effects and progression of Alzheimer's disease vary with each individual. Because of this, Alzheimer's Family Day Center offers participants programs that address the specific needs of people in the early, middle, and late stages of the disease. These programs all have a common goal: to provide opportunities for mental stimulation, social interaction, and organized participation in life's daily activities. This helps our participants to function at their highest levels at home and in the community, for as long as is appropriate.
Often referred to as the "second victim" of Alzheimer's disease, a caregiver's life can be turned upside down when a relative is diagnosed with a cognitive impairment like Alzheimer's disease. For this reason, Alzheimer's Family Day Center (AFDC) also offers programs to support and educate family caregivers.
For People with Dementia
Early Stage
Mind and Body Workshop
Weekly wellness-oriented programs help people in the early stages of memory loss to exercise their brain power and learn how to maximize their capabilities. This is a workshop for both people with mild cognitive impairment, and their families.
Adult Day Health Program
Friends Club
A therapeutic weekday program providing opportunities for people in the middle stages of an Alzheimer's type illness to connect with others and maintain or improve their physical, social and cognitive skills in a fun environment.
Sunshine Club
A weekday program for people in the later stages of an Alzheimer's illness that provides personal care; assistance with activities of daily living; as well as sensory, physical and cognitive stimulation.
For Caregivers
Support Groups
Support groups offer people in like circumstances the chance to share practical advice, discuss frustrations and fears and connect with others who are on a similar journey. Separate groups meet regularly at Alzheimer's Family Day Center for individual caregivers and for couples facing the challenges of Alzheimer's.
Educational Programs
AFDC offers special classes designed to help caregivers build their skills and confidence while learning more about Alzheimer's resources in the community. Our practical series of free "Classes for Caregivers" is offered the 3rd Wednesday of each month.
Additional Services
Consulting and Outreach Services
AFDC also provides consulting services upon request for long-term care facilities and other professional groups serving older adults. Staff members are also available to speak to businesses, school groups, service organizations, and faith communities about Alzheimer's and caregiving.
Individual Consultation
Our staff is happy to meet on a one-on-one basis to discuss the diagnosed individual's course of the disease, problem behaviors, care plans, next steps, or just to answer general questions you might have.
